Ubisoft says PS5 isn’t backwards compatible with PS3, PS2, PS1

Over the weekend, Ubisoft published and then deleted a claim that the PS5 will not offer backwards compatibility with older PlayStation consoles.

A post on Ubisoft’s support site stated PS5 backwards compatibility would be available for “supported PlayStation 4 titles”, but would “not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation games”.

Sony is yet to discuss whether it might offer some form of backwards compatibility for older PlayStation consoles, so Ubisoft’s statement raised eyebrows.

Sony has not commented on the matter but, last night, the above references were removed from Ubisoft’s site.

PlayStation 5’s support for backwards compatibility is still a little unclear. Sony has previously said it hopes to support “the overwhelming majority of the 4000+ PS4 titles” on PS5, though has avoided saying how many of these will be available at launch. Back in March, PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny said “almost all” of the top 100 PS4 games ranked by playtime would be available when the console arrives.

There has been no mention of earlier PlayStation game support at all.
